Offline topographic mapping

Ownable Offline topographic maps for Android, Web Browser, Desktops

Download the map before you leave. Everything works with no signal.

Navigation, GPS tracks, drawing, measurement and map printing all run on the device. There is no cloud round-trip, no login wall and nothing to reconnect to. Airplane mode is a supported way to use this app, not an edge case.

What it does

The ZYRNTOPO Android app showing its Download selected area dialog: an orange dashed box framing part of the Olympic mountains on a topo-over-imagery map, with min and max zoom sliders and an estimate of 4,832 tiles (~56.6 MB) of USGS Imagery.
Plate 1 · Saved area, no coverage

Save the area first

Draw a box, choose the zoom levels, and the whole area downloads to the phone — basemap, active overlays and 3D terrain together. Saved areas use persistent storage, so the system will not clear them to reclaim space.

  • Multi-gigabyte areas
  • USGS public-domain maps
  • 23 base layers
The ZYRNTOPO Android app with slope-angle shading over mountainous terrain (a colour legend from 27° through 60°+) and an elevation-profile chart along a 4.45-mile line, from 620 ft up to 2,224 ft.
Plate 2 · Slope 38° · Aspect NE

Read the terrain

Real elevation data in 3D, slope shaded by angle or aspect, viewshed and radio-horizon analysis, and true-scale PDF map sheets with UTM or MGRS grids for the pack.

  • Slope angle & avalanche aspect
  • Viewshed & radio horizon

ZYRNTOPO Team Chat open over the map, showing text and voice messages between team members with one peer online.
Plate 3 · Team Chat, 1 peer online

Put the team on one map

Share positions, markers and tracks over the internet, your own LAN, or an off-grid Reticulum mesh, and bridge into ATAK. Search periods, clue logs and rosters are built in for SAR crews.

  • Peer-to-peer & mesh, no server
  • ATAK CoT and MAVLink feeds
  • SAR periods, clues, rosters

Questions

Does it work with no cell signal at all?
Yes. Save an area before you leave and the basemap, overlays and 3D terrain all download to the device. GPS positioning, track recording, navigation, measurement and every drawing tool run on-device. Airplane mode is a supported workflow, not an edge case.
Is it a subscription?
No. The core app is free. ZYRNTOPO Pro is a single $40 purchase that unlocks 3D terrain, unlimited offline downloads, true-scale PDF map sheets, viewshed and premium overlays, Team Sync, and the tactical bridges — across app, web and desktop. Pay once; there is nothing to renew. You can try the web version first.
Do I need an account?
Not for the free app. Every core field tool works with no sign-up and no cloud profile — maps, tracks, markers and gear lists live on your device. An account is only needed to activate Pro, and once activated the licence is verified on the device, so it keeps working offline. Team Sync runs peer-to-peer or over your own LAN or mesh, never through our servers.
Can I bring data from Gaia GPS, CalTopo or Garmin?
Yes. Import GPX, KML/KMZ, GeoJSON and CSV directly, and export the same way, plus true-scale PDF map sheets with UTM/MGRS grids. See the import and export documentation.
What does it collect about me?
No personal data, no ads, no third-party trackers and no tracking cookies. The app sends one anonymous daily ping — app version, platform and a random device id — so we can count usage. It carries no personal information and no location. Location is used only in the foreground, for features you invoke. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
Which platforms are supported?
Android 8.0 and later, from Google Play, the Amazon Appstore (including Fire tablets) or a sideloaded APK; Windows 10 and 11 and every major Linux distribution as a desktop app; and any modern browser as an installable PWA. Phones, tablets and desktops, in both orientations.

Downloads

Linux

One command. Detects your distribution, verifies the SHA-256, installs the right package.

Any distribution
curl -fsSL https://zyrntopo.com/install.sh | sh
Then manage it with
zyrntopo update
zyrntopo version
zyrntopo remove

Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, RHEL, openSUSE and Arch get their native package. Anything else — NixOS, musl, immutable images — gets a self-contained AppImage that needs no root.

Individual packages (4)

Windows

Windows 10 or 11 — 64-bit, ARM64 or 32-bit. The same application in a desktop shell — offline maps, tracks and the POI dataset all behave exactly as they do on Android.

Windows is on 1.12.0 while 1.12.1 finishes building. Every other platform below is 1.12.1.

All Windows builds (6)

Take the 64-bit build unless you know otherwise. Choose ARM64 for a Snapdragon machine such as a Surface Pro 11 or a Copilot+ PC — it runs natively rather than under emulation. The 32-bit build is for older x86 hardware, and also runs on 64-bit Windows if you are unsure.

The .exe installs for the current user and needs no administrator. The .msi installs for every user on the machine and is the one to hand to Group Policy or Intune.

Verify before running
Get-FileHash zyrntopo-1.12.0-win-x64-setup.exe

The installers are not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC". Check the SHA-256 against the download archive, then choose More info → Run anyway.

Android

Android 7.0 or later. The APK carries the whole POI dataset, so it works with no connection from first launch.

Sideload over adb
curl -fLO https://pois.zyrntopo.com/downloads/zyrntopo-1.12.1-beta.apk
adb install zyrntopo-1.12.1-beta.apk

Amazon Fire

Fire HD and Fire Max tablets, and any Android phone or tablet running the Amazon Appstore. Fire OS ships without Google Play, so this is the route onto a Fire device — the Appstore handles installation and updates for you.

The same build as the Android release, POI dataset included, so it works with no connection from first launch.

Browser

Nothing to install. Installable as a PWA, and every offline feature works once an area is saved.

Current release 1.12.1 (build 181), except Windows on 1.12.0 (build 180). Sizes and SHA-256s for it are listed in the download archive (releases.json for scripts). Only the current release is published — always install the latest.

Get it

Install on Android, or open it in a browser now. Either way you are navigating in under a minute, and you can save your first area before you leave the driveway.
